Earthquake Update

For all of our international followers, vendors and investors.

Firstly, thank you for your concern. All members of the IRG team are safe and well and have closed the office as a purely precautionary measure.

What we know so far:

At approximately 1410hrs, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 80 miles North East of George Town, Grand Cayman causing tremors that shook Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands, along with many of our neighbouring Caribbean nations.

Early warnings of a tsunami threat have now been downgraded as the likely window for impact has passed. The Cayman Islands are surrounded by very deep ocean, reducing the likelihood of the impact of a damaging wave.

The Islands are continuing to experience some aftershocks/tremors which are to be expected following and earthquake of this magnitude.

With the exception of some sinkholes, damage to property on the island appears to have been very minimal. It is important to note that Cayman's Building Code requires us to build to earthquake-resilient, high-seismic standards.
